jakarman Thoughts about
In all other chapters the technical aspects of my SAS profession have passed by.
Not all things have been mentioned.
Other subjects aside SAS I have done in segregated chapters.

The work of a SASadmin is a challenging one. His role is not always understood. As you look at the
SAS Platform Administrator
the different roles can become more clear.
The role of IT and the CIO. A relation with SAS administration.

SAS has started a certification program. So you can underpin you statements knowing and understanding SAS.

In the Bi, Analytics Apple doesn't play an important role. SAS is not available on apple-products. You can use some things by emulations within apple.
I don´t want to start a discussion how nice or bad Apple or other suppliers are. Just to mention some facts.
OS-X the apple Operating System is based on Unix BSD. Information about it is found at:
OSX_technology .. apple
Conclusion: All general properties I mentioned with Unix also applies to Apple. Of course they will have solved many issues better.
Flash & Apple is a combination that is not well to be used. See: flash statement Steve Jobs
When searching for < flash adobe safari Imac lion > you&quatt a lot issues about problems.
Conclusion: When you want or have something based on Flash there will be problems with Apple-products.
SAS was just implementing now all kinds of presentations with flash. See Bi-server fact sheet fact sheet SAS Bi-server
The way apple protects its environment is rather crude.
- No look alike hardware is allowed to be buils or sold.
- For all software running on apple you will need approval of apple corporation. There is no open market in place
- itunes iapps is the only allowed download site
- Patents with high financial claims has become a common habit. war by patents - troll
Even a apfelstrudel restaurant is accused because of using apples. This story reaches all newspapers.
Accusing the Grimm brothers with Snow white using a apple is not be expected as to story is aged from 1812. You´l never know if they try to do so.
- foxconn The factory where apple prodcuts are made. Bad social environment, causing bad name to apple.
Sorry, writing this, it looks of an opinion.
At this moment no SAS clients ar available within the Apple environment. That is wat it is.
For the Ipad (Apple) and more kind of tablets SAS is devlopping something. And of course the wap ODS style interface is available
As the hardware used by Apple today is the same as is for Windows running Windows is possible
AJAX WEB 2.0 , Mobile
Ajax WEb 2.0
are techniques to modernize the web-access. It has got less attention because ot the mobile-hype.
With SAS there is a lost of XML to do. The Interfacing can be done by XML requets to SAS-servers.
General Approach: - Android - IOS - Win8 -
These are seen as the near future to deliver information on.
Knowledge how to connect them to Analytics information is the near future requirement.
office-analytics is mentioning AMO and Eguide with SAS/STAT
visual-analytics is looking quite different to other SAS procducts. Includes SAS Mobile BI, metnioning SAS/Access. Product is new (2012).
SAS Visual Analytics includes:
While the high end is not limited, SAS LASR Analytic Server reference configurations begin with an eight-blade server with 96 processor cores, 768 gigabytes memory and 4.8 terabytes (TB) of disk storage. The upper end of the reference configurations is 96 blades with 1,152 cores, 9.2 TB memory and 57.6 TB of disk storage, enough disk space to store the entire Library of Congress six times.
SAS other meanings
Out of IT
This is clearly something different, just doing searches it requires attention to order and filter the results.
- SAS the airline company
- SAS The British Special Air Service
- SAS The Scottish Ambulance Service
- (many more)
I different languages there is a possible local meaning to sas. The Dutch versions:
SAS schutsluis - sash lock
SAS pyrotechniek - pyrotechnics fireworks
SAS-dag The no diet day
in-je-sas-zijn feeling good, happy
sas translating: anterroom airlock
IT related - Not BI
This is clearly something different, most of them I have described in the glossary
- SAAS - Software As a Service - part of Cloud computing
- SAS-70 - Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70: Service Organizations ... (aipca)
- SAS - Serial attached SCSI (hard disk drives)
IT related - Analytics
This is very confusing. The same abbrevation should not be used by different suppliers.
- SSAS Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services is part of Microsoft SQL Server, a database management system.
It is the same as OLAP from SAS. SAS is able to connect to and using SSAS.
- SAS Security Authentication Service (IBM websphere).
This is the security part of webspehere. Files like sas.client.props are used to configure the WAS environment (Websphere Applications Service).
This is absolutely not the same as connecting
SAS (BAF) to webpshere.

Tweets: SAS a bad way
There are many discussions to not use use but (....) like SAS-versus-R
or Handle with Care - R Packages - Are they business ready?
The setting is that at universities students are learning R and developing aversion to use SAS.
The mismatch has always been there. Fortran and Cobol where once the standard commercial programming languages. they have never been educated at universities. The simple reason can be that at education programs no inteference with commercial parties is accepted.
More information I have gathered at: BI - intro - tools
Tweets: Internal business, SAS acceptance
You can see SAS as a IT-tool or been delivered to the business. The business goals are often forgot while focussing on technics.
It is very easys with SAS to get into a training wiht no relation to your background. Imagine financial analysts are doing IT technics and It technical department the financial work.
Within my own experience I have seen this have lead to personal aversion to SAS.
A subject where SAS is failing is getting the security (data network) doen in compliant way. With financials external auditing and all governemental regulations this is a major shortcoming.
SAS is seen as a threat to get a secured enviroment as it will open all access and having no control.
More information I have gathered at: Sox Basel Solvency
SAS Language clones
Curia - Legal court
SAS language is not copyright protected. It is free to be emulated.
SAS - WPS lawsuite
WPS , World Programming Ltd , minequest
The World Programming System (WPS) is a powerful and versatile platform for working with data. WPS software can run programs written in the language of SAS.
It has some limitations as not all of SAS is available, but also advantages.
Running SAS-code on Systems SAS institute have no support for.
SAS Language, client alternatives
App dev studio

- cozyroc (cozyroc.com) Translation of sas7bdat files to Excel, looks conform the SAS viewer. Offering al lot more library modules
- bixforsas Integration of SAS into the desktop Excel-like approach
There are personal sites with SAS to be found. I made just a selection. In the area of Clinics (CDISC) more history is present.
Some sites have a dedicated location for SAS others are specialized. The proceedings are containing very good presentations not that good and sometimes missing papers at all.
Some of the good ones I have made references in my SAS chapters.
